Newspapers, the legs of your tables, or your food. Dogs love chewing on things and almost never say no to treats. But which foods are actually healthy and also put your pooch on cloud nine?
Proteins from plants tend to have a lower digestibility as dogs cannot digest plant fiber as easily. Cooked chicken, lamb, fish, beef are good sources of protein, which is important for energy production.
Healthy fats such as peanuts contain EFAs that help dogs maintain healthy skin and coat quality. (Just make sure that you feed ONLY A DOLLOP of it occasionally, and shouldn’t contain a deadly sugar substitute, found in sugar-free products, called Xylitol.)
Apples, an excellent source of Fiber, keep the colon healthy along with the microbes of the gut. Besides, they make for a tasty treat. Just make sure to get rid of the core (as it can be a choking hazard and the seeds contain small amounts of cyanide).
Carrots, rich in Vitamin A, support eye health, build a strong immune system, healthy skin and coat, and prevent loose stools. Please note that lightly cooked or steamed carrots are best for your pooch as it enhances their flavor while retaining most of the nutrients.
While this list isn’t exhaustive, it does cover a few of the most important foods that you should give your dog and it's always good to feed your pet fresh and real food. Why not give your pooch a healthy blend of all the above and more goodness?
